Ülke imkanları doğrultusunda sınırlı sayıda göçmenin sınırı geçmesine izin verildi. Olağanüstü hal ilan edilmeden önce günde 1300 göçmen sınırı geçerken, olağanüstü hal ile bu sayı aşağılara çekildi.
Göçmenlerin Makedonya’da daha insanca muamele görmesi için böyle bir karar alındığını söyleyen İçişleri Bakanlığı Sözcüsü İvo Kotevski, “çok sayıda göçmenin aynı anda ülkeye girmesiyle birlikte yerel halkı korumanın imkansız olacağını” savundu.
Göçmenlerin alınan bu karardan önce illegal yollardan ülkeye giriş yaptıklarını ve yaşanan göçmen akınını kontrol altına almak için güvenlik tedbirlerini artırdıklarını hatırlatan Kotevski şöyle devam etti: “Bu durumun ne zamana kadar süreceğini kestirmek zor, çünkü bu bizden çok sınırın diğer tarafında gelişecek olaylara bağlı”.
Göz yaşartıcı gaz kullanıldığı iddialarını yalanlayan İçişleri Bakanlığı, polis kordonunu delmeye çalışan göçmenleri dağıtmak için ses bombası kullanıldığını belirtti. Göçmenlerin büyük kısmı Yunanistan – Makedonya sınırında kamp kurarak Makedonya hükümetinin vereceği geçiş iznini bekliyor.
