Makedonya Dışişleri Bakanlığının sert dilli uyarısı, Sırbistan hükumetinden bazı isimlerin ülkenin anayasal ismi ” Makedonya Cumhuriyeti” yerine ” Makedonya Eski Yugoslav Cumhuriyeti” ifadesini kullanmaya başlamalarından sonra geldi.
Sırp yetkilileri iki ülke arasındaki diplomatik ilişkilerin seviyesine yakışmayan yanlış uygulamaya son vermeye çağıran Makedonya Dışişleri Bakanlığı’nın açıklamasında, ” Makedonya vatandaşlarının hislerini inciten bu provokasyonun komşuluk ilişkilerine uygun düşmediğine inanıyoruz. Komşuların aşağılayıcı isimler kullanmalarını liyakatsiz ve utanç verici buluyoruz” denildi.
Sırbistan Dışişleri Bakanı İvitsa Daçiç, Kosova’nın bağımsızlığını tanıyan ve UNESCO’ya üyeliğini destekleyen Makedonya’ya tepki olarak ülkenin ismini geleneksel müttefikleri Yunanistan’ın tavsiye ettiği şekliyle ” Makedonya Eski Yugoslav Cumhuriyeti” olarak kullanmaya başlayacaklarını açıklamıştı.
