AA muhabirinin, Sağlık Bakanlığı, Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK), Ekonomik Kalkınma ve İşbirliği Örgütü (OECD) ve Küresel Yetişkin Tütün Harcaması Raporlarından derlediği bilgilere göre, Türkiye’de sigara için yılda ortalama 20 milyar dolar harcanıyor. Her yıl, dünyada yaklaşık 6 milyon, Türkiye’de ise 110 bin kişi sigara nedeniyle yaşamını yitiriyor.
Yılda yaklaşık 2 milyar liralık ekmeğin israf edildiği Türkiye’de ortalama bir paket sigara bedeliyle 10 ekmek alınabiliyor.
Sigaraya harcanan parayla günde 10 kişinin karnı doyabilir
Dünya nüfusunun yaklaşık dörtte birinin sigara tükettiği göz önünde bulundurulursa, sigaraya harcanacak parayla bir kişi günde en az 10 kişinin tok yatmasına yardımcı olabilir.
Türkiye’de, 9 Temmuz 2009’dan itibaren tüm kapalı alanlarda uygulanan “Dumansız Hava Sahası” yasasıyla, sigara içme oranları ve sigaraya harcanan miktar azalmasına rağmen, Türkiye hala dünyada sigara içen ülkeler arasında 11’inci sırada bulunuyor.
Yasadan önce, 2008 yılında, yüzde 32 olan sigara içenlerin oranı, 2012’de yüzde 27’ye, 2015 sonu itibarıyla yüzde 24’e geriledi. Erkeklerde yüzde 48 olan sigara içme oranı yüzde 41 seviyelerine, kadınlarda ise yüzde 15’lerden 13’lere indi.
