Hırvatistan Cumhurbaşkanı Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, Avrupa Birliği (AB) Konseyinin Arnavutluk ve Kuzey Makedonya ile üyelik müzakerelerinin başlatılması yönünde karar almamasının yanlış olduğunu ifade etti.
Kitarovic, Hırvatistan’a iki günlük resmi bir ziyaret gerçekleştiren Arnavutluk Cumhurbaşkanı İlir Meta ile görüştü.
Cumhurbaşkanlığı’ndaki görüşmenin ardından düzenlenen ortak basın toplantısında açıklamalarda bulunan Hırvat lider, iki ülke arasındaki ilişkilerin son derece iyi olduğunu belirterek, görüşmede ikili ilişkilerin yanı sıra bölgesel iş birliğini de ele aldıklarını aktardı.
AB Konseyinin Arnavutluk ve Kuzey Makedonya ile ilgili kararını da değerlendiren Kitarovic, “Üyelik müzakerelerinin başlatılmamasından derin üzüntü duyuyorum. Bunun yanlış bir karar olduğu ve doğru bir mesaj vermediği kanaatindeyim.” ifadelerini kullandı.
Kitarovic, Arnavutluk ve Kuzey Makedonya’nın hem reformların uygulanması hem de sorunların çözümü noktasında adımlar attığını dile getirerek, “Hırvatistan, AB Dönem Başkanlığı sürecinde bu iki ülkenin AB üyeliği için elinden geleni yapacak.” dedi.
Arnavutluk Cumhurbaşkanı Meta da AB’ye üyelik noktasında Hırvatistan’ın desteğinin kendileri için çok anlamlı olduğunu kaydederek, AB üyeliği hedefinde çalışmaya devam edeceklerini ifade etti.
Meta, müzakerelere başlama noktasında olumlu cevap alabilmek için gelecek haftalarda çalışmaları yoğunlaştırma sözü verdiklerini belirterek, “Hırvatistan’ın dönem başkanlığında bölge ülkelerinin AB üyeliğine odaklanacak olması da bizi ayrıca mutlu ediyor.” diye konuştu.
Belçika’nın başkenti Brüksel’de 17 Ekim’de gerçekleştirilen AB Liderler Zirvesi’nde, Fransa’nın karşı çıkması nedeniyle Kuzey Makedonya ve Arnavutluk ile katılım müzakerelerine başlanması kararı alınamamıştı.
AB liderlerinin, Aralık ayındaki zirvede konuyu yeniden ele alması bekleniyor.
