Sırp askerleri tarafından Kosova’da gerçekleştirmiş olduğu katliam ardından KFOR Barış Gücü’nde görev yapan ve Sırbistan’ın bıraktığı mayınları temizlemek için Dragaş Bölgesi’nde çalışırken şehit düşen Kıdemli Başçavuş Hüseyin Kutlu, şehit edilişinin 18’inci ölüm yıldönümünde anıldı ve anısına yapılan anıt törenle açıldı.
Sırbistan’ın 1999 yılında Kosova’da uyguladığı katliam ardından NATO’nun müdahalesiyle BM denetimi altına giren Kosova’daki görevli Türk askeri, ilk şehidini Sırpların döşediği mayının patlaması sonucu verdi.
Şehit Kıdemli Başçavuş Hüseyin Kutlu’nun anısına Kosova’daki KFOR Karargahı’nda düzenlen ilk tören ardından şehit düştüğü Dragaş bölgesinde çok sayıda üst düzey davetlinin katılımıyla yapılan anıt ve çevre düzenlemesinin açılışı gerçekleşti. Tören Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Büyükelçisi Kıvılcım Kılıç ve Kosova Türk Temsil Heyeti Başkanı Kurmay Albay M. İhsan Tavazar’ın Şehit Hüseyin Kutlu anıtına çelenk koymasıyla başladı. Saygı duruşı ardından Türkiyeve Kosova marşları söylendi. Törende 1999 yılında Sırplar tarafından döşenen mayınları temizlerken şehit düşen Kıdemli Başçavuş Hüseyin Kutlu’nun özgeçmişi anlatıldı. DHA’ya konuşan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Büyükelçisi Kıvılcım Kılıç, ” Kosova ile Türkiye arasındaki ilişkilerin çok eskiye dayandığını söyledi. Çanakkale harbinde çok sayıda Kosovalı’nın şehit düştüğünü söyleyen Kılıç, Türk milleti de Kosova halkının her zaman yanında olmuştur” dedi.

Şehit Hüseyin Kutlu anıtı açılışı ardından, aynı alanda yer alan Şehit Hüseyin Kutlu Çeşmesi’nin de açılışı çocukların da katılımıyla gerçekleşti. Açılış töreni ardından Şehit Hüseyin Kutlu için dualar okundu.
