ABD Merkez Kuvvetler (CENTCOM) Komutanı General Llyod Austin, gazetecilere yaptığı açıklamada, DAEŞ’in Irak’ın kuzeyinde ve Suriye’de örgütün hala güçlü olduğu noktaları geri almak için gelecek aylarda ilave askeri kabiliyetlere gereksinim duyulabileceğini belirtti.
Suriyeli ılımlı muhaliflere yönelik başarısızlıkla sonuçlanan eğit-donat programının yeniden gözden geçirilip geçirilmediğine ilişkin soruya, Austin, “Evet, gözden geçiriyoruz. Farklı bir yaklaşım sergileyerek bu çabayı yeniden başlatmak için izin istedim” yanıtını verdi.
“YPG unsurları ile Rusların iş birliği yaptığını gördük”
Austin, bir soru üzerine, terör örgütü PKK’nın Suriye’deki uzantısı YPG ile Rusların işbirliği yaptığını söyledi. Suriye’nin kuzeybatısında YPG ile Ruslar arasındaki işbirliğini gözlemlediklerini ifade eden Austin, “Ülkenin kuzeybatısında YPG unsurları ile Rusların iş birliği yaptığını gördük. Bunu seyrek gerçekleşen bir işbirliği olarak tanımlayabilirim” dedi.
Austin, bir başka soruyu yanıtlarken “YPG’nin, ABD’nin desteklediği Suriyeli muhalifleri hedef aldığına dair deliller var” diye konuştu.
