Anglikan Kilisesi’ne mensup 84 piskoposun, İngiltere Başbakanı David Cameron’a, ülkenin sığınmacı politikasını eleştiren mektup gönderdiği ortaya çıktı.
Kilisenin İngiltere çapındaki 108 piskoposundan 84’ünün imzasını taşıyan ve Cameron’a eylül ayında yollanan mektupta, Suriye’den en az 50 bin sığınmacının kabul edilmesi talep edildi.
Cameron, İngiltere’ye 2020’ye kadar 20 bin sığınmacı alınacağını açıklamıştı. Piskoposlar ise 20 bin sığınmacının 2 yıl içinde ülkeye girmesini, sayının 5 yılda en az 50 bini bulmasını istedi.
Avrupa’daki sığınmacı krizinin “ahlak krizi” olarak nitelendirildiği mektupta, piskoposlar İngiltere’ye kabul edilecek sığınmacılar için barınma sorununun çözümüne katkı sözü verdi. Piskoposlar, ailesinden ayrı düşmüş veya ailesini yitirmiş binlerce sığınmacı çocuğun bakımının da sağlanacağını kaydetti.
Mektubun, üzerinden bir ay geçmesine rağmen Cameron’dan yanıt gelmemesi üzerine basınla paylaşıldığı belirtildi.
Mektupta imzası bulunan din adamlarından Durham Piskoposu Paul Butler, yayımladığı basın açıklamasında, “Savaş ve acılar arttıkça hükümetin buna verdiği tepki sorunun boyutlarına ve vahametine nispetle git gide daha uygunsuz görünüyor. Başbakanın verdiği güvenceye karşın mektubumuza dişe dokunur yanıt alamamış olmamız cesaret kırıcı” ifadesini kullandı.
Mektupta, Anglikan Kilisesi’nin önemli isimlerinden Canterbury Başpiskoposu Justin Welby ve York Başpiskoposu John Sentamu’nun imzaları ise bulunmuyor.
